Fascinantni su mi ovi mastori i njihove rezbarije. Kojom lakoćom oblikuju skulpturice.
Nevjerovatno je koliko je teško doći do materijala za lule i koliko se treba pomučiti, bilo da se radi o meeru, vrijesu...

Evo i malo klasifikacije turskog meerschauma:

"If you are in need of a nice block meerschaum please look for meerschaum pipe made out of "Sar?su" blocks.
Sar?su is a small village in eskisehir turkey where the highest quality meerschaum reserves are located.
Unfortunately; it can be recognized only by people who carve and who are very used to see the uncarved blocks
before carving process..But some major tips for you :

1.Pressed meerschaum currently doesnt exist in the turkish market.(At least as a producer in the market there is no1 I have heard of currently working.There is just some producer names who used to produce meerschaum pipes by pressing particles left from the real carving process.However this doesnt meant that you cant be fooled.
There are some main places where meerschaum blocks are gathered.

Noteworthy names are:

Sar?su (turkmentokat): this is the real meerschaum with great absorbation quality.you will definetely feel the difference both in smoking and durability of the pipe itself.If your grandchild uses the pipe than deifnetely you have sar?su meerschaum pipe.It is usually quite light in weight and more resisting to physical damages.

Marg?: If sar?su meerschaum is considered as gold than Marg? meerschaum can be considered as silver.Usually in good quality.Durable..It smokes good but you wont have the great smoking experience as in the sar?su.But definetely smokes really good and resemble to a good sar?su meerschaum pipe.Some of the marg? blocks may be equally absorbing and durable as Sar?su meerschaum.

Nemli: This one is not as light as the other two.It has a "scale" like touch and characeristic and this one doesnt crack easily.Less durable than the other two ..definetely much less durable than the sar?su meerschaum.
Its taste is not as good as the two.Absorbation quality is less.This one can be considered as an "ok" meerschaum
or lets say it is of avarage quality

Sepetci / Kumtas?: do not event try this. It is usually crap.Cracks easily when smoked frequently.Heavy genereally however it has lighter ones too.It has some darker color.So the yellow bee waxed pipes can be of this meerschaum.Be careful.Some percantage of these meerschaum blocks can be accepted as average quality too.There is only a very little percantage of good kumtasi-sepetci meerschaum.

There are some other small places where meerschaum is gathered in turkey.I wanted to give you some info on the top three and the worst one.

When buying a meerschaum prefer the ones without wax in the bowl so that you can be aware of the worst quality of the meerschaum which can be dark in color.When a pipe is bee waxed it will look like the best meerschaum pipe in the world.So better watch out !Prefer light ones in weight.This doesnt mean that all light ones will be of greatest quality but light is generally sar?su meerschaum.

Look into the bowl in the direct sunlight.It has to be as white as snow and shiny without any darker shadows.
You can not also easily break a sar?su meerschaum pipe. It will require much more force indeed whereas you can break low quality pipes easier. (You can not try this before you buy for sure)

Sar?su meerschaum gives you a solid but cotton like feeling.
That is to say, it is not easy to recognize a good meerschaum pipe easily.All block meerschaum pipes get yellowish as you smoke so that is not a way to see that you have a best quality meerschaum.Even does the sepetchi meerschaum gets yellowish.
